The Miracle of Compression

I’m totally going.

webmike:

Courtland Milloy in the December 10, 2008 Washington Post wrote an interesting column on the expected crowds for the Obama inauguration.

One of the largest recent crowds was 750,000 thousand for the Garth Brooks Concert in Central Park.  The upcoming Washington event is bantering around the number of 4 million.

For the recent opening of the Nationals Park, it took 45 minutes to move 40,000 people into the Metro Station when the game ended.  ”So, if, say 2 million people try to funnel into a subway tunnel after the inaugural, the last passenger would have to wait almost two days….”

“This will be like getting the population equivalent of Los Angles to stand on a geographical pinhead and then disappear into a subway tunnel”.

The estimate for charter buses is nearing 10,000…. and nobody has any idea where to park them.

This is gonna be a hoot.
